1. Know What You Don’t Know
In order to close skill gaps, you need to know what they are. Since it can be difficult to identify every gap at once, having a designated person speaking to your department heads about the issues they see day-to-day is a great way to gather information. That information can then be synthesized into a solid enablement strategy.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but videos are literally the PERFECT tool for quick enablement. I will admit that the first time I was asked to make one to explain something, I was nervous. I don’t necessarily love recording myself, but if it means not having to hold a meeting, I will take one for the team every time.
Be clear about what the destination is, and the road to get there will be much smoother.
